Description

this calico was purchased from our dealership which means it's equipped with safety and convenience features that are usually missing from the "how can they offer it that cheap?" price leaders. for example calico's base 2h slant is has a 12' body length. this trailer has a 13' body. on the 12-footer the offset on the rear stall is about a foot narrower than that of the front stall. on this 13-footer the rear stall is nearly as wide as the front so you're not limited to carrying no more than a pony in the rear. hopefully the extra width is apparent in some of the stall views with this listing. this calico has a 7' body height instead of the standard 6'6" body height. it also has brakes on both axles brakes on one axle are standard . the trailer has a 7000 lb. gross vehicle weight rating and we figure if you can load it up to 7000 lbs. you should have comparable braking capability. even if you don't load the trailer to the max and most folks won't it's still nice to know you have braking power in reserve. smooth riding torsion axles are standard as are heavy duty 16" load range e radial tires and in keeping with the "equip it to be used" philosophy this trailer was ordered with a spare tire. this one is equipped with a swing-wall dressing room so can you open up the entire interior to haul a load of hay a small tractor or livestock other than horses. the dressing room has a lockable door and a row of bridle hooks and this one was ordered with a pair of removable saddle boss saddle racks. other functional niceties you'll find here are dome lights in the dressing room and horse area and padded straps across the rear opening escape door and dr door opening the latter useful in case animals are given access to the front area and further to that calico thoughtfully includes a supplemental latch on the dr door so you don't have to rely on just the "camper" latch when animals are in the front area . another small but important detail we specify are tiebacks on the rear gate escape door and dr door. if you've ever had a gate blow closed while you're trying to load you can understand why we like to point out that we order our calicos with tiebacks. we really like calico's slant divider latch. you rotate the latch and it retracts quickly and easily. it can be used as a slam latch but it's so easy to retract that we just rotate the latch and close it quietly. during the trailer's one trip the horse pawed and scuffed some areas of the front and butt walls so we coated those areas with a layer of spray-on truck bed liner. actually the horse scuffed just the front right corner but we coated the entire lower sections of those two walls because we felt it would be more useful and look better. what we applied isn't as thick as the stuff the commercial outfits apply but it's much better than a scuffed wall! calico went to a 2-part urethane paint with hardener a few years ago and while prepping those lower walls before applying the bed liner we saw firsthand how tenacious that 2-part paint is. the original paint had such a good bond that we just scuffed the surface and applied the bed liner over that.
